With Fall just days away, I am posting my favorite recipe for the season. I can't believe I have never posted it before. It is a family recipe from my grandmother passed on to my mom and to me, and has been on our Thanksgiving table since I can remember.
Sweet Potato Casserole
Preheat oven to 350°.
For filling, mix together:
- 3 cups mashed sweet potatoes (plain canned without syrup or oven roasted)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup butter
- cinnamon
For the topping, mix together:
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1/3 cup butter (don't melt)
- 1cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)
- 1/3 cup flour
Great as a side dish or even a dessert!
