our snowy scene

The snow fell all day yesterday, and this morning we awoke to a beautiful snowy scene. Snow this time of year in Virginia is pretty rare, especially before the holidays. Maybe this weather is just a taste of what is to come this Winter.

Skye's love of snow is a given, Mason's love of the white stuff has suprised me. They both love it so much! They had a wonderful time playing, rolling, hopping, and catching snowballs. It took many attempts to snap a photo of them - catching was the easy part, me tossing and timing the photograph was a challenge. We were all worn out by the time I got the photos I wanted!

let it snow

Photobucket

It snowed from about 9 am until about 9 pm today and has left us with a wonderful white blanket across our neighborhood. I love snow, especially the kind that falls on the weekends when we can stay home and don't have to fight the traffic and slushy roads to get to work. We did our grocery shopping last night so we didn't have to leave the house today. It was a great day around here!

The boys loved it! Skye just stands and lets the snow hit him and takes it all in. He even did a little hopping around and they both played chase. It was a little painful watching their paws dig into the very soggy mud, I am just dreading seeing the damage they did to the grass we actually have left in the back yard.

Mason just loves running and rolling in it... he is all boy!

Honey Bun Cake

This was the perfect breakfast for our cold, snowy morning! I am a sucker for any recipe that calls for butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.

Recipe courtesy of my co-worker Monica.

preheat oven to 350
grease 13 x 9 cake pan
set aside 1/2 cup yellow cake mix

mix together in a large bowl...
  • 1 box yellow cake mix (less the 1/2 cup set aside)
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 sticks butter (softened)
  • 8 ounces sour cream
spread half of the batter evenly in the baking dish

mix together in a small bowl...
  • 1/2 cup cake mix (previously set aside)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
sprinkle dry mixture over the batter in the baking dish
spread the remaining batter over the dry mixture (TIP: I pour it down the middle and spread out toward the edges using a small teaspoon... the batter is thick and will be difficult to spread.)

bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean

whisk together in a small bowl...
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar
  • 4 tablespoons milk
while cake is still hot, use knife to poke holes in the cake
pour frosting over and smooth with a spatula
the frosting will harden like a glaze

best when served warm!

Deck the Halls

This weekend, while the boys played, we decked the halls and hung more lights. I love Christmas decorations and I just know I will be sad when I have to put them away. Enjoy!

Maybe one day I will get Matt up on the roof and put lights on our second story. It is just so tall and we don't really have a safe ladder that will support him that high. Safety is more important that beauty in my book!
