newest addition

Photobucket

Welcome, rocker! This gem was waiting for us on the doorstep when we arrived home last night. Thank you, Grammie! I am very proud to say that I put it together all by myself. It came in five large pieces that go together very easily. The slipcover is a must, because the base pieces are just bare upholstery fabric. I chose the beige so that I can use it in another room later if needed. I will brighten it up with a bolster/pillow in the room's accent color (red). It is pretty comfortable for my 5'-6" height. It is a little small for Matt, but he is my giant at 6'-5"... he fits, but it is snug. I don't think we could fit a bigger chair in that space though. I always thought it was the perfect room for a nursery because it is the smallest, but maybe I was wrong! Oh well, there is no going back now. I do love it because it is the sunniest, brightest room in the house, making it very cheery. Overall, it is a great addition to our nursery.

Still to come... bedding, wall hangings, and accessories.

houston, we have...

movement

Baby boy feels like a little fishy swimming around in my tummy and bumping up against the anterior uterine wall.  I can't feel it from the outside at this point but it feels really neat!

Bradley that is. Behold the diaper bag. I know it's pink, green, and purple, but I chose it for me. I mean, I will be the only one carrying it so it doesn't need to be boy colors, right!?!  It looks a little scrawny because it is empty, but rest assured, this will be plenty big enough... I hope!!

week 20, day 0

[the view from up here]
  • I have gained 10 lbs so far.  12 oz of that is actual baby.
  • I feel more and more pregnant each day.  There is no mistaking this belly.  I am now beyond the point of people thinking I am just putting on a little weight.  I am also learning how to roll out of bed.
  • Still no cravings, but I love all food and really look forward to eating every chance I get.
  • Baby boy's heartbeat is currently 156 bpm.  Sounds normal and not all crazy like mine is!
  • The OB said over and over how perfect everything looks, and we couldn't be happier about that!
  • My next challenge is researching names.  This quest may go all the way to the 40th week at the rate I am going!

preparing

Between my mother-in-law and my grandmother, we are well on our way to being the most prepared parents ever. Matt's mom has been shopping over the course of this pregnancy getting ready for her first grandchild, bringing things up every time she visits. My Grammie came up all the way from North Carolina this past weekend for a baby shopping marathon. We have so much stuff already, making a baby registry will be a little difficult.

Look at this closet!!! Obviously, the first thing on my list to get the nursery ready is to get a closet organizing system because this closet is so big and open for all of this wee little baby stuff.  Some of the cute little clothes were purchased after our ultrasound yesterday.

As far as furniture, we have the dresser and the crib. The only other thing that will fit in this room is the rocker. I have my eye on this one or this one.  The rocker will go in front of the window to the right in the photo above.

You may also notice we have painted the walls.  I chose this color months ago with a little pressure from Matt who wanted to get the painting over with.  I figured this color could go either way.  For a girl, I would have paired a dark pink/fuchsia.  For a boy, I will be pairing with red and possibly yellow.

We still have a long way to go, but we are off to an amazing start.  We are so thankful to our families for what they have done so far.  This is going to be one lucky little boy!

snips and snails and puppy dog tails...

That's what little boys are made of.

I am now buffing up on my nursery rhymes as we wait to welcome our new little boy to the world. It feels nice to finally know so we can now plan all of the details we have been holding off on. First things first, the name. This is going to be such a difficult decision because a name is so permanent. Now we can move on to bedding and clothing and all the fun things in the nursery. We are both very excited, but I think Matt is a little disappointed he is not getting the little girl he had his heart set on. Maybe next time, baby! I am already outnumbered by boys (Matt, Skye, and Mason). It will still be me and my boys!

Stay tuned for photos from our weekend full of baby shopping adventures and more of "the view from up here"!

clean slate

This past week, Matt's dad and his friend took out the two evergreen bushes and five boxwood's that we have hated since we bought this house in 2007. His friend will re-purpose the boxwood's, so that makes me feel better.  The spirea at the very end closest to the steps will be removed to create an opening.  That leaves us with a clean slate to work with.  I will be researching and scouring to find ideas to liven up these planters.  We want to vary the heights, textures, and colors.  Any suggestions?  (Momma, I know you will read this eventually!)

Excuse the brown, crunchy grass.  We are in a bit of a drought with local water restrictions, so no watering the grass.  We are watering our plants because we don't want to see the money we spent go down the drain if they don't make it.

It was so worth the wait.  I just love fireworks - the thundering sounds and fabulous lighting up of the sky.  To me, there is nothing more festive!  Just think, next year we will have a 7 month old in tow and we can't wait.

I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July weekend!

i think they know...

they aren't always going to be the only babies around here. When the little one makes it's arrival, things are going to change some for these boys. Matt and I will work our hardest to make sure they still get plenty of attention, take them for walks, and do group things that keep them involved, but I can't help but think that the attention they get is going be reduced a little. We will work hard because how can you not make time for these faces!?!
