beauty

I didn't make it into DC again this year to see the cherry blossoms. Despite missing out on the
beauty that takes over the Tidal Basin, I am very glad that I can look right outside my front door
and see my very own Kwanzan Cherry tree in full bloom. This tree never fails to put a smile on my
face when it is in full bloom!
tip: I have never changed the metering setting on my camera. I honestly didn't know it existed, but
in playing around, I changed the setting to spot metering, and I love the depth of field that opened
up in some of my shots. Am I the only one who didn't know about metering?

the weekender [sun edition]
As if there weren't already enough color in our yard, we know the kwanzan cherry tree will be colorless all too soon, so we added some more color to our yard. We got red Geraniums for our hanging baskets, and planted blue pearl impatiens under the cherry tree.

Stay tuned because my azaleas will be the next to bloom, followed by the spirea, hydrangea, and salvia.

favs
I have been a little lax on posting and I apologize for that. While I haven't been posting, I have been making lists and generating ideas. I started a running list of my favorite things and figured I would share them in case anyone out there is remotely interested. Here are a few of my recent favorite things!

Cheerwine + Sun Drop
Yummy soda's that up until recently, I couldn't even find here in Virginia and had to get when we went down to North Carolina. Now you can get Cheerwine at select locations. They pretty much speak for themselves, but they are so good. I can't have Cheerwine right now, but I savored the Sun Drop. If you ever see this, pick one up!

Banana Cheesecake
We recently went to our favorite lake restaurant, Clearwater Grill. It is a longer drive than most restaurants, but it is a scenic drive through the country and the food is worth the extra drive. I really like their spinach and artichoke dip, but their cheesecakes are to die for. The banana cheesecake drizzled with caramel is sooo smooth and delicious. I could eat a slice every day!

Teva Flip Flops
I'm not a big fan of all Teva's, but I love these flip flops. They are super comfortable and cute. I have had the pair in the top photo for about a year, and recently picked the blue ones out on our beach vacation. Love these things!

Fried Spinach at Firebird's Grill
This dish is amazing. It sounds weird, and honestly, I thought the same myself before it came out with my equally amazing salmon. It is not greasy or soggy, but crisp and full of flavor. You can still taste the nutrients in it. Very tasty!
and, I'm on a food roll here...

Strawberry Custard from Rita's
Smooth, creamy, great strawberry flavor. Nothing beats this custard. Matt loves their wild cherry italian ice. It is perfection!

And since I have said goodbye to alcohol due to my "condition", this is my new stand in. It is fruity, bubbly, and refreshing - my perfect drink for summer!
So tell me, what are some of your recent favorites?

Pink Monsoon

The first thunderstorm of the season came through this week. Blooms from the cherry tree were everywhere, it looked like a pink monsoon in our front yard. The front of our house was plastered with pink, as were our cars and the neighbors cars... sorry neighbors! Poor Mason was scared every time he saw a flash of lightning or heard a rumble of thunder, but he survived it!
a wee bit
I am copying Mandee over at The Bear Naked Truth and linking up with Leigh Ashley's Wee Bit Wednesdays. This is a first for me!

{one} what was your favorite birthday gift?
An entire box full of brand spankin' new office supplies around age 7 or 8. I was in heaven with all of the supplies, paper, and other miscellaneous items. Office supplies, crafting supplies, and paper are my weaknesses!
{two} have you ever been cow-tipping or snipe-hunting?
snipe hunting, yes! ha ha!
{three} what’s the strangest talent you have?
tying a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue... is that a talent?!?
{four} what are your favorite kind of chips?
Miss Vickie's Jalapeno
{five} do you know any tongue twisters?
only the woodchuck one!
{six} what was the last movie you saw in a theater?
Eat, Pray, Love
{seven} do you collect anything?
seashells
{eight} what is something you wish you were better at?
Staying motivated and organized... I am way to good at making excuses and believing myself.
{nine} what’s the worst habit you have?
not drinking enough water
{ten} when you wake up, what is the first thing you think?
Is it Saturday?

thrilled

This photo was taken during our airplane photo session this past weekend. I set-up the tripod
pretty low to the ground and angled the camera toward the ceiling and corner of the room. I put it
on the quick remote setting under release mode. I then held Will in the air with the camera remote
in my hand and snapped away! He was quite thrilled with the whole experience!!
[ I can't wait until my Kwanzan Cherry tree is in full bloom. You can bet that I will be using this
same technique with that as a backdrop! ]

bunny tone

Fitting for the holiday, the above photo was edited with the "Bunny Tone" setting in Picnik. I used
50% fade and mixed it 3-4 times. I then adjusted the contrast and shadows. (I know, it sounds so
technical - ha! I don't currently have access to Photoshop or any other fancy editing software, so
I have to get creative with how to edit my photos and Picnik works just fine for now!)

Yep, more cherry tree photos... I just couldn't resist! I only get to enjoy the beauty of this tree two
weeks out of the year.
Speaking of bunny tone, I am still trying to put together an Easter basket for an infant that cannot
have any of the yummy candy yet. Poor baby, I know! I just can't let him experience his first Easter
without a visit from the Easter Bunny. I will keep you posted!
In other news, my beloved Keurig bit the dust. Something is wrong with the sensor and it is no
longer drawing in water and without water, there is no brewing. I have tried all of the fixes that
have been posted online with no luck. I am on the hunt for a new coffee maker, but not a Keurig.
I need one that makes more coffee at a time and one with a timer start. Any suggestions!?!
